On November 29, 2008, The Friday Night Boy’s opened for All Time Low’s “The Compromising of Integrity, Morality, & Principles in Exchange for Money” tour on its last date at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia. I caught up with The Friday Night Boys after their set that night.
The
Friday Night Boys are a pop-punk band from Fairfax, Virginia. The band members
consist of Andrew Goldstein (Vocals/Guitar), Robby Dallas Reider (Bass), Mike
Toohey (Guitar/Vocals), and Chris Barrett (Drums). The band came together in 2006.When
they independently released their first EP “The Sketch Process” in April of
2008, they went on to get 45,000 online digital downloads. Their independent
success caught the eye of MTV, who featured them this past summer on Total
Request Live’s “On the Radar” which featured up and coming unsigned bands. A
month later The Friday Night Boys (FNB) were signed to Fueled by Ramen in
partner with Photo Finish Records as well as The Party Scene. Since then the
boys in FNB have been pretty busy. Since their second EP “That’s What She Said”
was released in October, the boys have been touring. When Goldstein was in
college , his schedule limited their tour to weekends for the last few months,
but now that he graduated the boys are ready to begin a full touring schedule.
When it
comes to negative criticism, the band doesn’t let it get in their way. It “rolls
off my back. Keep hating” says Robby, the band’s bassist. Andrew says it best:
“We don’t really react. Anyone talking
about our band [whether] its positive or
negative, is someone talking about it.”
Like any
band, they have fears for the future. They know that this business is a roller
coaster ride and they embrace it. “It’s an opportunity more than just making
it,” says Chris.
The
boys are currently in L.A. working on their first full length album with
Emanuel Kiriakou. Kiriakou is behind
artists such as Jordin Sparks, David Archuleta, Jesse McCartney and many more. Their
album is scheduled to come out later this year
In their own words, the future holds: “fun,
excitement, peirting(partying), chillin, being legit (legitimate band),
driving, hotness, gas, the strip, and being bro.”
The the
boys in FNB were some of the nicest
guys. It is no wonder that the band’s message, ”Have fun; let’s party, laugh,” is
what they live by.
