As an American who happens to be a Republican, my first thought after learning of President Obama’s many cabinet picks was, “thank goodness he’s not going too far to the left on some of the more important positions.” This is especially true when it comes to those who will steer the country through the current recession.
The country needs economic solutions that encourage businesses to pull us through. Small businesses especially generate the bulk of jobs in this country and it is their interests we must really worry about. Now with Tim Geithner on board, a proven pro-business treasury secretary, perhaps we do stand a better chance of moving out of this ruinous recession. Of course, dealing with a Democratic Congress will be the real test, but at least there is a good chance the right decisions might be made.
Beyond that, it at least appears on the surface that we are witnessing a different and quite an interesting approach to a much-needed change in our country. The diverse array of people that Obama has chosen will be the key integral parts that will ultimately decide how our country fares in the next four years. It seems he has covered every end of the political spectrum with an ethnically mixed group of cabinet members.
A poll taken by CNN indicates that a majority approves of the selection of Hillary Clinton and Robert Gates. It seems that people are confident that Clinton and Obama will set aside their political differences and make a good team. A self-described liberal commented on Obama’s picks and made the notion that, “it’s a good combination of conservatives and liberal viewpoints.” The public also believes that Obama’s choice of keeping the Defense Secretary Robert Gates is also a good decision, since he was doing a good job under the Bush administration.
People seem to be very optimistic about the Obama administration. They believe, according to CNN that any choice that Obama makes will inevitably turn out to be a good one. Obama seems to have searched far and wide for the perfect team and he seems to have found one of the most powerful in history. This could be either a good thing or a bad thing. It could end up being the end to many of our problems or it in fact could lead to Obama not fulfilling any of his promises. Either way it seems that Obama is willing to take that chance and as our President we must trust him and hope he makes the right decisions.
