The past year has been dedicated to politics, from the primaries to the selection of the vice presidential and presidential candidates. It has been one hell of a year for politics, even for that one guy who runs for office every four years…what is his name again?
Oh yes, Ralph Nader. Let us face it, his political attempts to make it into the oval office are overshadowed by the Democratic and Republican candidates and the media frenzy that surrounds them, particularly on Saturday Night Live.
The brilliant Tina Fey does an exceptional job imitating the Republican Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin. On a famous interview between Palin and Katie Couric, Palin answered some questions in a questionable manner. This allowed for Tina Fey and Amy Poehler to make a parody of the interview in which Governor Palin infamously said, “I can see Russia from my state”. Now that is an awesome line. I can see New Jersey from my house, but that is because it is across the bridge. However, I am not experienced in the art of Foreign Policy.
Saturday Night Live does not disappoint when it comes to the Democrats though. They provide some hardy laughs in that arena as well. From poking fun at Senator Biden to Presidential candidate Barack Obama, no one is safe when it comes to comedy. Jason Sudeikis does a good job capturing the essence of Senator Biden. Come on though, everyone must admit the best political parody by far is Tina Fey’s Sarah Palin. Tina Fey was born to play that part.
As voting day quickly approaches, the parodies have become a part of the ritual of American politics. Now all that is left is which candidate will give SNL writers more material for the next four years…
